Let’s talk about Phoenix, Arizona. Growing up in Mesa, Phoenix was right in my backyard. I loved it. It’s the big city I always wanted to live in. Now that I am older and have moved away, I have realized how amazing Phoenix really is! And how big it is! Recently, we went on a trip with our little Ollie to show him the ropes! When we were trying to figure out things to do in Phoenix with kids, I was surprised at how much there really is to do. I guess I never realized how family-friendly it really was when I was growing up. I’m so excited to share everything we learned with you!
This post is all about things to do in Phoenix with kids.
Things To Do in Phoenix with Kids
Fee – Check here
The Phoenix Zoo is so much fun! I only went a few times when I was growing up, but I had great memories there. I was so excited to take all of her there! Let’s just say that it did not disappoint! There is so much to do at the Phoenix Zoo. It is so big that we weren’t even able to do everything in the 3 hours we were there. There are so many exhibits and animals and they’re really easy to see which is always a plus!
There’s even a splash pad so if you do happen to go on a warmer day, don’t forget to bring a little swimsuit for your young kids so they can cool off a bit. Since the zoo is so big, I highly recommend bringing a stroller or wagon for young kids so they can take a break from walking.
Hole in the Rock at Papago Park
If you and your family are into hiking, or even if you’re not, Hole in the Rock at Papago Park is a really cool thing to do in Phoenix, Arizona. It is literally what the name says: a hole in the rock. It is about a 0.3-mile walk up from the parking lot to the Hole in the Rock, so calling it a hike may be generous. But the short length makes it a great thing to do in Phoenix with young kids! My favorite time to go is either at sunrise or sunset. It gives you a great view of the valley and makes for some great pictures.
Desert Botanical Garden
Fee – Check Pricing Page
If you’re looking for something more natural and outdoorsy to do when you go to Phoenix with kids, the Desert Botanical Garden is a great option. If you’re not familiar with botanical gardens, it’s basically like walking through a giant well-manicured garden. The Desert Botanical Garden is so pretty, educational, and super diverse! There are so many different types of plants to look at and learn about. We love it because it allows Oliver to get better acquainted with nature in a prettier setting than just running around outside.
Diamondbacks Baseball Game at Chase Field
Going to a baseball game in Phoenix should definitely be on your list of things to do in Phoenix with kids! Chase Field, where the Diamondbacks play, is a really cool stadium with some delicious food, especially the churro dog! If you’re feeling fancy, you can try to rent out the Crèmily Pool Suite so you can take a swim while you watch the game! Depending on when you go to Phoenix, if you miss the regular season, you may be able to catch a Chicago Cubs spring training game in nearby Mesa.
Children’s Museum of Phoenix
Every big city has got to have a children’s museum right? Phoenix is no exception. They have one of the most fun Children’s Museums that we have been to! There are so many interactive things for your kids to do that will keep them engaged and entertained. You can spend several hours there and not get bored. This is definitely one of our favorite things to do in Phoenix with kids. It’s great!
Arizona Science Center
The Arizona Science Center is super cool! I remember going there on school field trips growing up and it was one of my favorite field trips ever. There are so many different exhibits that allow your kids to learn about science in a very interactive way. It’s so worth it.
Out of Africa
Out of Africa was another favorite field trip of mine. I would highly recommend adding this to your list of things to do in Phoenix with kids. Out of Africa is like the zoo meets a safari meets the desert. It is really cool and super interactive. You can even take safari tours throughout the park. Having never been to Africa yet, that felt pretty authentic. Haha.
Castles N’ Coasters
Did you know that Phoenix has amusement parks? It’s true! There are a few amusement parks in Phoenix and the area surrounding it. Castles ‘n Coasters is one of them. Not only does it have rides for the whole family, but there are also a bunch of different activities such as an arcade and mini golfing. It is so great for the family. You can spend an entire day there. If you like to have fun, this is a great option for you in Phoenix.

That’s right! Another amusement park. A Six Flags in fact. Although this isn’t your traditional Six Flags. This is one of the few Six Flags water parks in the country. It is so much fun! And a perfect way to cool off if you come during one of the warmer times of the year. Again, there is plenty for the entire family to do, including small kids, which is always great!
Enchanted Island Amusement Park

Here is another smaller amusement park in Phoenix that is so cute! If you got kids who love trains, you should take them to the Enchanted Island Amusement Park! There is a train that goes all over the park that your kids can go on. There are also rock climbing, carousels, and even a splash pad, so don’t forget your swimsuit.
Hall of Flame
Admission Fee – Hall of Flame Website
What is more Arizona than a museum all about firefighters? Probably everything. But this is still such a unique Museum that we haven’t seen in very many cities. There are so many things to learn about firefighters and all the equipment they use and the history behind it. They also do a really great job at providing fire safety through their exhibits which is super useful. It really is such a fun place to visit!
Admission Fee – Crayola Experience Website
Yes, The “Crayola”. The Crayola Experience is a very fun and unique place to take your kids near Phoenix, Arizona. It’s fully themed and there are so many different exhibits that your kids can go through from melting crayons to creating different pictures. It really is super immersive and so worth it.
Wild Life World Zoo

The Wildlife World Zoo is pretty cool! It’s a little outside of Phoenix, but it is definitely worth the drive. It is essentially a zoo, a safari, and an aquarium all in one. Oh, and there might even be a roller coaster there too. There is so much to see and learn and it’s a great place to take the kids in Phoenix.
Musical Instrument Museum
Admission Fee – Musical Instrument Museum
The Musical Instrument Museum is one of our favorite museums to go to because we love music. And this museum is all about musical instruments! But don’t worry, it’s not just looking at instruments. Thank goodness right? There is a gallery that allows you and your kids to experiment with a bunch of different instruments and hear the different sounds they make. It’s so great!
Admission Fee – Party Jungle Website
Party Jungle is advertised as an indoor amusement park. it definitely is! It is geared towards children ages 2 through 10, and has so much for them to do oh, that it’s sure to Tire them out! There are small rides, arcade games, and a jungle gym for them to climb around in.
Phoenix Trolley Museum
The Phoenix Trolley Museum is basically a museum about all of the vehicles in Phoenix. It’s kind of interesting and kind of fun so I definitely recommend it if you and your kids are into vehicles.
That’s a wrap for things to do in Phoenix with kids! I hope this helps you plan a great trip for your family! Let me know which cities you would like to get ideas on what to do there with kids!
