Are you looking for things to do in Salt Lake City with kids? Look no further! I’ve got a detailed breakdown of things to do in Salt Lake City with your family that will make your trip very memorable!

Salt Lake City. I’m sure if you’re reading this, you and your family must be looking into visiting this cute city, as you should! It’s got the big city amenities without feeling too big and busy. You can ride the train around the city or rent some bikes/scooters to explore like a local. There is also usually something going on as well. It’s a perfect vacation to take as a family because there really is something for everyone.

I worked in downtown Salt Lake for about a year and had a lot of time to explore all that the city has to offer. And eat lots of food. I gotta say that if I hadn’t walked around the city to do all of my exploring, I would have gained so much weight. When it came time to write down all of the fun things to do in Salt Lake with kids, I had such a hard time narrowing it down! I wanted to share fun things that would make your family’s trip unique while still hitting all of the must-see (and eat) items. You gotta eat, so why not eat the best Salt Lake has to offer, right? So without further ado, here is the list of things to do in Salt Lake City with kids.

Where to Stay in Salt Lake City

Staying in downtown Salt Lake City is highly recommended. It allows you and your family to be close to all the happenings and not have to travel too far after a long day of exploring. Here are my recommendations on where to stay.

The Grand America Hotel – 5 star

If you can afford it, I would recommend staying here. It’s so nice and luxurious. The best that Salt Lake has to offer.

The Little America Hotel – 4 star

This sweet hotel is the younger brother of the Grand America Hotel. The service is just as good, there are just not as many perks to staying here.

Salt Lake Plaza Hotel – 3 star

This hotel is right across from Temple Square in the heart of Salt Lake City. It’s got a great vibe and all of the hotel essentials.

Utah State Capitol

History, architecture, nature. This place has it all! If you’re in Salt Lake City, you have to come here. Bring your camera!

Bonneville Salt Flats

If you’re in Salt Lake, you have to go to the Salt Flats. They are unique and pretty cool.

Ensign Peak

Get a view of the whole valley here!

City Creek Center

Best mall, but I may be biased. There are great stores and it’s such a fun atmosphere

Salt Lake Trolley Tours

Such a good way to see the city and save yourself some steps.

Rent Bikes/Scooters

Like most big cities, Salt Lake has bikes or scooters for you to rent. This is such a great way to see the city.

Memory Grove Park

Cutest little gem hidden in the heart of the city. Stop by to take a break from the hustle  and bustle and enjoy some time in nature.

This is the Place

Can’t come to Salt Lake without visiting some historic sites like This is the Place. Don’t forget to get some donuts! They are too good.

Clark Planetarium

Think you can’t see the stars in the middle of a big city? Think again! Check out all of the fun things that the planetarium has to offer.

Red Butte Garden

This place is a beauty! If you like nature, you will want to come here. Also, if it matters, it’s one of the largest botanical gardens in the western United States, so that’s pretty cool.

Liberty Park

Think of this as Salt Lake’s Central Park. It’s such a fun place to hang out and relax, ride bikes through, or even paddle boat. There is so much to do here, especially if you’re really into the outdoors.

Hogle Zoo

Who doesn’t love the zoo? This is such a fun thing to do in Salt Lake with kids.

Snowbird Scenic Tram Ride

This is something that is best done during the summer since these are used for skiing and snowboarding during the winter. It’s so pretty to ride though and see the mountains in a different light and from a different height. It is a little spendy, but it’s so worth it to see the beautiful Utah mountains.

Temple Square

One of the biggest influences in Salt Lake City is the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and the Salt Lake Temple sits in the center of the city. The gardens are kept up really well and it’s super fun and peaceful to walk around here.

Vivint Arena

Sports. Concerts. Events. This place hosts them all. Check their website to see what’s happening when you are in town and get yourself a ticket!

East High School

Any High School Musical fans out there? Don’t forget to stop by and check out the school that started it all!

Salt Lake Library

This is such a unique building that even if you’re not a reader, you should check out. Also, don’t forget to make your way up to the roof to get a fun view of the city.

Best Restaurants in Salt Lake City

The Med

Such delicious Mediterranean food! My favorites are the Greek Combo Plate and the Souvlaki.

Copper Onion

They have such delicious and traditional food here! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

My favorites are the Cacio e Pepe and Niman Ranch Strip Steak.

Gourmandise

French desserts are my jam. Well, all desserts. But this place sells French ones so here we are. These are so delicious and a must-try!

My favorites are the Marzipan Slice, Lemon Curd Tartelette, Cannoli, and the Passion Fruit Mousse Slice. Honestly, you can’t go wrong with most of their desserts though.

Eva’s Bakery

I worked right down the road from this sweet little shop and it was not good for my figure. It was sure delicious though! This is another bakery, hence the name, and has such delicious finds.

Some recommendations are their French Macarons, Eclairs, and the Baguettes. All so good.

Blue Lemon

There was a time where all of my life revolved around this restaurant. I was taken on two dates within a couple weeks here and a friend had her wedding reception catered by them. Was I mad about it? No! I grew to know and love Blue Lemon very well. This one is right outside of City Creek Center too which makes it super convenient to go-to.

My favorites are Fire Grilled Top Sirloin Steak, Lemon Herb Alfredo with Chicken, and the Tomato Bisque Soup.

The Pie Pizzeria

With how much my life revolves around pizza, I can’t believe it took me this long to get to it. The Pie not only has such good pizza, but it also has a fun environment. It makes it feel like one of those old pizza joints you see on TV. I trust you guys know the kinds of pizza you like, so I won’t push my pepperoni and pineapple combo on you.

However, you should definitely try the Cheese Pull-A-parts. They are good.

Setebello’s

Two pizza places? Yes. Pizza is life. This is another fun pizza place with a fun environment. Having been to Italy, this pizza is the closest I have found here in Utah so that’s saying something!

Oh, and they sell a Nutella dessert pizza, so…. yeah. Enough said.

Market Street Grill

If you know me, you probably think it’s funny that I added a seafood restaurant to my list because I’m not much of a seafood lover.

Market Street Grill has some of the best clam chowder I have ever had though and I do love a good clam chowder. They also make a really good prime rib.

Hires Big H

If you like burgers, this is a great place to go. They have some of the best burgers and fries around. And their shakes are pretty good as well! Their Hires Big H burger is too good.

So what do you think? If you’re coming to Salt Lake, does this help answer the “what to do in Salt Lake City” Google searches you’ve been doing late into the night? I sure hope so! Salt Lake City is a fun place to visit. The weather is pretty temperate during the summer and there are always fun things to do! I would love to hear if you do any of these things or eat at any of the restaurants and what you think of them!
